Liver Tumor Cancer Clinic

What is the Parkland Multidisciplinary Liver Tumor Clinic?

The Parkland Liver Tumor Clinic, was started by Drs. Adam Yopp and Amit Singal in 2010. It is a program that brings your entire specialist team together to work on a care plan for patients with liver tumors – with many of them in the same clinic to make the visit more convenient. This program helps you get the best treatment, faster. Part of the work done by the Liver Tumor Cancer Clinic includes finding people at risk for liver tumors and increasing screening to help find tumors earlier, when treatments can work better.

What is Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC)?

Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of cancer that starts in the liver. More people die from HCC every year than the year before, with the highest number of deaths in racial/ethnic minorities. If you have cirrhosis, hepatitis B or C infection, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, or abuse alcohol, you are at increased risk of getting HCC.

What to expect for my first visit?

At your first visit, a healthcare provider will tell you about your liver tumor. You are welcome to bring a family member with you to your appointments if you would like. You and your provider will talk together about the stage of your tumor, what the expected recovery and outcome will be and what your treatment options are. Your care team will then meet to talk about your case and come up with the best treatment plan for you. The Liver Tumor Clinic offers cancer treatments like surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy. Your team will work hard to find the best treatment plan for you to extend your life and your ability to enjoy life.

What questions should I ask my provider about Liver Cancer?

The American Cancer Society has a list of questions you should ask your provider when you’re told you have liver cancer. They also have questions you can ask as you work with your providers to decide on a treatment plan, for when you are having your treatments and questions for after your treatment is over.
